Leyendecker Study: Man Reading Book
Created over the course of 2 1/2 days, this study (Based off of a 1916 piece) kicked my ass in ways I hadn't anticipated, but that was the goal. Compared to some of his other work, this was one of his most subdued, color wise.
If this study allowed me to realize anything, it's just how graphic some of Leyendeckers choices were. His tie and jacket were pretty much flat black, but looked rounded thanks to subtle touches (like the highlight on the tie) and the cross contour gold patterning, which gave it form. Also the way he laid down his strokes was truly remarkable. Learned quite a few things.

Leyendecker Study: Marching Band
Leyendecker: Pure stylized genius. Way ahead of his time, and I look forward to doing a lot more studies of his work. Moby Franke kept giving us lectures back in school about how his work ultimately influenced TF2, I just didn't gain a full appreciation for his work till being in the industry for a few years. 1 1/2 hour study.
